Adult education is an ongoing activity at Kol Shalom. In addition to lessons provided by the Rabbi and others during the Friday night and Shabbat morning services, the classes shown below occur each week. In addition, Kol Shalom provides evening adult education classes each Fall and Spring. These classes usually consist of 4 to 6 sessions. In the Fall, congregants study the book of Genesis chapter by chapter in detail. In the Spring, sessions are usually devoted to theological or liturgical text. Most often, these sessions are also instructed by the Rabbi.
- Talmud Study – Mondays at 9:30 AM
- Torah Story – Thursdays at 9:30 AM
- Adult Education – 4-6 Sessions in Fall and Spring
In this class we read and review the traditional Hebrew/Aramaic Talmudic text and its English translation plus commentary as provided by the ArtScroll edition of the Talmud. Currently we are coming to the end of studying Tractate Megillah. Each class session is facilitated by the Rabbi and usually lasts about one hour.
In this class we present issues and ask questions that are derived from the weekly Torah portion. The participants then engage in an open discussion of these issues and questions which is moderated by the Rabbi. Most often the Rabbi will bring in an article or text for more focused study of some aspect of the Torah portion. This class lasts about 90 minutes.
